Recent research has found that alternative therapy is becoming more common and more popular among Americans who are having problems conceiving a child.
In the study conducted by the University of California, San Francisco nearly a third of Californian women examined were said to have tried out alternative therapies to get pregnant.
The therapies tried as principle mode of curing infertility or as a complementary strategy to main stream treatments, included:
- Herbal remedies to try and increase fertility. 18% of those examined said that they had used herbal remedies.
- Acupuncture as a means to increase fertility. 22% of those studied said they had tried acupuncture.
- And massage as a means to find more success in getting pregnant. 5% people said they had used chiropractic massage.
The study found that as many as 29% of couples studied had tried out one or other alternative therapy or complementary therapy to assist in the process of conceiving a baby.
It isn’t just the desire to try out something that has less side effects, but also the cost factor that motivates people to try out alternative therapies for infertility: while in vitro fertilization therapy may cost around $16,550, acupuncture will cost approximately $100 per session only.
