Emphysema is a form of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in which the lungs become inelastic after years of exposure to cigarette smoke and air pollution.
The overwhelming majority of cases of emphysema are due to smoking but in a very few cases young people and even children can develop emphysema due to a hereditary deficiency of a blood protein called antitrypsin.
Herbal treatment can be used to control immediate symptoms of emphysema.
Beneficial natural herbs to use are as follows:
Astragalus is to be used in the form of capsule of fluidextracts. You should take as directed on the label. Astragalus accelerates healing in the bronchial tubes and promotes better breathing.
Ephedra is to be used in the form of an over the counter formula such as Clear Lungs from Natural Alternatives. You should take as directed on the label. Ephedra relieves shortness of breath, chest congestion and wheezing.
Horsetail is to be used in the form of a tincture. You should take 10 to 20 drops in ¼ cup of water three times a day. Horsetail helps repair and maintain lung tissue.
