Spa Treatments – A Therapeutic Pampering

Though spa treatments have become synonymous with expensive pampering and relaxation and as beauty aids, the fact is that modern spa treatments in fact have their origin in traditional systems of massage that are age old.

Spa treatments could mean cosmetic procedures such as facials, pedicures and manicures etc., or they could mean wellness offerings such as salt glows, body wraps, etc. and would also typically offer services such as Sauna, steam and hot tub.

A facial spa treatment would include a skin analysis, followed by appropriate procedures like cleaning, exfoliating, extraction, face masks and serums. A regular facial treatment could help nourish, hydrate and rejuvenate skin.

Spa treatments for the body would include cleansing, exfoliation, and hydration of the skin all over the body, not just the face. This could include several different kinds of body wraps, or body polishes or application of other natural minerals or a sea salt scrub.

The salt glow treatment would typically involve mixing salt with aromatic or essential oil, and then being used to exfoliate the skin.

Body wrap spa treatments often claim to be quick weight loss treatments that help to lose weight quickly though the process of vasodilatation.

Different substances such as seaweed, algae, creams and lotions, mud and clays could be used for this. These spa treatments are sometimes called body cocoons or body masks as well.

Spa pedicures and manicures can be substantially more expensive than your regular one at the salon.

This is not only because of the luxurious environs of a spa but also because the service could include a number of different procedures such as a hydrating mask, an aromatic salt scrub, paraffin dip, hot stone massage, etc and could be considerably longer in duration.

Massage Spa Treatments have now really caught on; though of the procedures hark back to traditions that are literally thousands of years old. Thai massage was developed more than two thousand years ago and can help to improve flexibility and help in redress of the energy systems of the body.

It can also help to ease joint and muscle tension. The massage involves the body being made to assume various different positions by the therapist which is why many call it yoga without the effort. It can be done with one’s clothes on.

On the other hand, Swedish massage is performed without clothes, and the therapist uses their body, including the feet to manipulate the person’s body into different positions etc.

Hot stone massage is the sort of massage that involves the placement of the distinctive smooth round volcanic pebbles along the spine that have been heated and sanitized appropriately.

The stones are also placed on the belly, hands, and between the toes, and such specific energy points. These procedures can also help with injury of inflammation of the muscles.

Many spa treatments now offer Reflexology as well, where the therapist will work on specific points of the feet that correspond to other parts of the body and can help to alleviate a number of different problems.
