1. Determine the Type of Massage

The first step to select the perfect massage oil is to determine the type of massage you need it for. If you wish to get Swedish massage or relaxation massage, then olive oil or any other heavier oil will be good whereas on the other hand, if you wish to get a high friction massage like a deep tissue massage done, then you will need a lighter oil like grapeseed oil.

2. Determine the Place and Time of Massage

In a situation where you have access to a shower or have the option to get off the extra oil, then you can easily select a heavier oil. These oils do not get completely absorbed by the body in a short interval of time and need to be washed off. Moreover, you can select a heavier oil even when you get you massage done at home, and in the night or evenings.

3. Determine what you want from the Oil

Another good tip to get the perfect massage oil is to take into consideration your own personal preferences. For example, if you are allergic to strong smells or are sensitive to certain smells, then you must avoid oils that have a recognizable or strong scent whereas if you enjoy massages with aromatherapy type benefits, then it is better to select an oil which fulfils this purpose.

4. Consider the Allergic Reactions

If you are allergic to a certain seed, but or any other such thing, then make sure your oil is not based on that substance as it may cause an allergic reaction. Those who are allergic to nuts for example must avoid almond oils and so on.

5. Determine the Therapeutic Value

If you need a massage to soothe an injury, then it is better to opt for a medicated oil rather than going for a plain oil whereas if you have any allergy which you wish soothe, then do not use medicated oils as they may stimulate an allergic reaction.
