  1. Apply Ice

Ice reduces swelling, infections, and pain in the ankle. Enclose the ice cubes in a towel and gently rub on the affected area for 48 to 72 hours, so that it relieves pain and keeps the ligaments torn free and diminish bleeding.

Compression soothes pain and also halts from further injury. Elastic bandage, tape or special boots are used for compression. Wrap the bandage over the affected area and it should not be too tight because it obstructs blood flow. Discard the bandage or tape before going to bed. When the affected area turns blue, discard the bandage immediately.

  1. Apply Turmeric

Make a paste by mixing 2 tablespoons of turmeric powder, one tablespoon of lime juice, and warm water. Spread the paste on the ankle and enclose it with the bandage. Rest it for 10 hours and redo the process for every 10 hours and prolong the process for one week. Drink a glass of warm turmeric water to relieve from enormous pain. Turmeric is an outstanding pain comforter.

It has anti-inflammatory and healing properties and lessens the pain and infection. It promotes body’s strength and energy and also recovers healing process. Take one tablespoon of garlic juice and two tablespoons of warm coconut oil and make the solution. Apply this solution on the ankle. Let it remain for half an hour and then wash with lukewarm water. For speed recovery of the sprained ankle apply the solution three to four times a day for many days up to heal the ankle totally.

It is a famous home remedy for curing sprained ankle. It softens sore muscle due to the presence of magnesium sulfate crystals. Transfer Epsom salt in a warm bath water and mix it with hand until salt melt. Submerge the ankle in this water and let it rest for 30 minutes. Repeat the process for 3 to 4 days twice in a day.

Applying castor oil is an ancient remedy for reducing the pain and infections of sprains. It has ricinoleic acid that contains anti-inflammatory properties. Overlap a cloth for a number of times to make the pad. Immerse the pad in castor oil and keep the pad on the affected ankle and enclose it with many layers of bandage or plastic tape and let it rest for few minutes. Now place the hot water bottle on the castor oil pack for 30 minutes. Separate the pack and rub the oil on the affected skin. Do this for two days and apply twice in a day.

  1. Onion

It has anti-inflammatory properties and it is utilized for curing sprained ankle, arthritis, rheumatism, and jammed fingers. It lowers pain, swelling, and infection. Mince big onion into small pieces. Keep the pieces in a muslin cloth and bind it with a rubber band. Place the cloth on the affected area and keep it for two hours. Redo this process to lessen the pain.

  1. Cabbage

It is a great remedy for curing sprain pains due to its anti-inflammatory properties. It flattens swelling and broken bones. It is great in vitamins and phytonutrients which help in the recovery process. Enclose the cabbage leaves in foil and heat them in the oven. The leaves should not be too hot. Keep the warm leaves on the affected area and fix it with a bandage. Coat the area with a plastic band to maintain warmness. Rest it for 30 minutes. Repeat this remedy twice in a day for two days.

The phenolic compounds present in the olive oil lighten inflammation on the affected area. It has healing properties. Heat the olive oil and cool it. Rub the warm oil on the sprained ankle for few minutes. It de-stress muscle and soothes pain. Repeat this process for few days.
