Natural Remedies For Chest Congestion

Chest congestion is such a common ailment, but can be so very troubling for us. In particular, when a child in the family suffers from chest congestion he or she can become very ill indeed, with a temperature, difficulty breathing, difficult sleeping peacefully and even a poor appetite.

While some doctors routinely prescribe antibiotics for chest congestion, with natural home remedies it may not come to that at all:

herbal teaSteam inhalation: Steam is always a good way to clear chest congestion.

One can also add to the water some apple cider vinegar and then do the inhalation.

Eucalyptus oil is also very effective when added to the water for steam inhalation. Lavender, thyme or oregano, either in actual herb form or the essential oil form can be used.

Adding the oil to a warm cloth: Adding the essential oils to a warm cloth, from which the hot water is squeezed out and then inhaling the vapors, also seems to work well.

Herbal tea: Herbal tea can be made by boiling several different herbs and drinking it. Ginger, mullein, licorice and pleurisy root can be used to prepare the herbal tea and then some honey or cayenne pepper (if you tolerate it well) can be added to it.
