Home Remedies for White Patches on Skin – Vitiligo

When we get even a tiny pimple we get stressed and try to cure it as soon as possible, don’t we? Then think how stressful it would be if we get white patches? The skin condition of having white patches on the skin is known as vitiligo. Though it is not a life threatening condition it is definitely so stressful and we want to become normal yet again like others.

White patches or white spots usually can be seen near the nose, mouth, inside the mouth, around eyes, temples, etc. Premature greying of hair accompanies it further. This usually starts small and then spreads widely. There can be one of the many factors causing this skin condition which include genetic, chemical reactions, oxidative stress, viral or neural reasons. It can also because of any medical condition or autoimmune disorder.

Home Remedies for White Patches on Skin - Vitiligo

Thankfully you need not worry as it can be treated at home at an early stage. Here are few remedies that can help you cure these spots.

1. Babchi

Babchi is also known as Psoralea and bakuchi which is an Ayurvedic remedy to treat hypopigmentation; it has anti-psoriatic properties and so treat psoriasis.

Soak babchi seeds in some ginger juice for three days and everyday replace the ginger juice. Now remove the husks by rubbing them in your palm, sundry them and grind them to fine powder. Eat 1 gram or 1/5th teaspoon of this powder mixed in a glass of milk for 40 days. You can also apply this to the affected areas.

Alternatively apply babchi oil on affected areas and then expose to sunlight for 15 minutes. If you want you can also mix this oil with black seed oil.

2. Ginkgo Biloba

Ginkgo biloba has antioxidants and immunomodulatory properties due to which it can treat vitiligo. It can reduce the progression of this disease and then induce repigmentation.

Take 40 to 80 mg of ginkgo biloba thrice a day. You can also consult a doctor regarding the dosage.

3. Ginger

It is known that ginger can improve blood circulation and improve melanin production. Thus it can used to treat vitiligo.

You need to take a ginger slice and place over the affected area and leave it till it dries. Do this twice a day till you see result.

If you don’t want to place slice of the patches then extract ginger juice and mint leaves. Drink it daily to see results.

4. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is known to soothe inflammation and treat vitiligo since it can promote repigmentation. Coconut oil has antibacterial and antifungal properties.

Apply extra-virgin coconut oil over the affected areas twice or thrice a day for few weeks to see results.

5. Radish Seeds

Ground radish seeds mixed with vinegar is a popular remedy for vitiligo.

Grind radish seeds into powder and mix it with vinegar to form paste with them. Now apply this over white patches and leave it for 30 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water and do this daily for few months.

6. Copper

It can improve melanin production. The enzyme, Tyrosinase utilizes copper so that it can be used for the synthesis of melanin pigment.

Take some drinking water in a copper vessel and leave it overnight at room temperature. Next morning drink it on empty stomach every morning.

7. Red Clay

Red clay consists of copper and so it can also help to improve melanin production.

Mix red clay and ginger juice in equal ratio and apply this paste over the patches. Once it dries completely rinse it off and repeat this daily for few months.

8. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has antimicrobial properties and so it can destroy fungi which is reason behind your white patches. It can also help with low stomach acid which linked to vitiligo.

Mix apple cider vinegar and water in equal ratio. Use this mixture to wash the patches twice a day for a month. You can also drink a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar mixed in a glass of water everyday before meals.

9. Turmeric

This root can also cure vitiligo when used with mustard oil.

Take 5 teaspoons of turmeric powder with 250ml or a cup of mustard oil. Apply this to the patches and do this twice a day for a year.

You can also prepare paste of turmeric and neem leaves. Apply this to white patches everyday for few months to see the results.

10. Neem

Neem is well known to treat skin problems and this also restores skin pigmentation.

Take crushed neem leaves and mix them with some buttermilk to prepare paste. Apply it all over the white patches and let it dry. Rinse it well and do this daily for few weeks.

You can also apply neem oil to the affected area; but it is important to dilute it in coconut oil or any other carrier oil. Mix few drops of neem oil in a teaspoon of carrier oil.

Take neem juice internally or have it as supplement daily for few months. You can also eat few leaves thrice a day before meals. This will purify your blood boosting your immunity.

While following these remedies it is important to follow a proper diet is also important. Vitiligo patients should not eat fruits like berries as they contain hydroquinone which is known for depigmenting the skin. Since vitiligo is linked to vitamin B12 deficiency, eat more cabbage, dried beans, walnuts, spinach, dried figs, chickpeas and foods rich in vitamin B12, folic acid and zinc. Avoid non-veg foods like seafood and red meat.
